The 1967 McDonogh 35 Year Book was added to the McDonogh 35 web page. A total of four year books are present from the mid to late 1960’s. We are eager to receive earlier year books since this school has a one hundred year history in New Orleans. We are sure the “Roneagles” will rise to the challenge, as they have always done.
The sole scrap book of an individual’s high school experience was provided to this site by the family of the late Sandra Parker. She was the valedictorian of the McDonogh 35 1957 Class. The memoir details the individual experience of a senior at McDonogh 35 High School. Aspirations of various people are imagined. School activities were images of the times. We reflect and remember our personal high school experiences.
The story of two schools, one in New Orleans, the other in Shreveport, the story of two Lion siblings caught at the crossroads of migration and integration, the dreams of two men, Booker T. Washington and Julius Rosenwald, came to fruition in an enormous way. Both were successes. The Lions in New Orleans were established in 1942. Many accomplished artisans in a wide range of fields walked through its hallways with the world at its door steps. The Lions dared to take the step and the rest is history. Part of their development can be glimpsed by viewing the Lion’s lair. Three yearbooks from the early to mid-1950’s are displayed to show their origins and their prowess.
Walter L. Cohen High School, New Orleans, Louisiana, Orleans Parish Cohen High School has three year books posted from the years immediately preceding their closing. The years, 1969, 1967 and 1965, were remarkable because of the extensive portrayal of a student body engaged in all aspects of high school life. They leave a trail scattered with aspirations, pride and hope for the future. There is much to be learned by viewing their site. The Green Hornets make a lasting impression. We feel their lost.
Walter L. Cohen High School, New Orleans, Louisiana, Orleans Parish Hornets are difficult to forget because they come with a sting, in this case, a pleasant sting. These green hornets from Walter L. Cohen High School will be remembered for their style. Two year books were added to their page and they are a must see for anyone who dare to view this website. We are very excited to have them as part of the African American high school experience. We will see more from them in the near future.
A recent addition to L B Landry High School, New Orleans, Louisiana, Orleans Parish was photos from the 1940’s era. Band performances, outdoor basketball, swimming , tennis and other activities were part of the high school experience.
