Redmond Spikes High School

A group of seven community schools in the Oak Grove area were consolidated to form the Redmond Spikes High School. The earliest building was constructed in 1921. Another community school was the Atkins school. Seven community schools were built with private donations from each community. The community schools, one-room schools, were merged to form Redmond Spikes High School. Most of the inhabitants of the area were share croppers. The school year in the earlier years for African American students were tailored to the growing seasons.

The school was named for a highly respected African American minister, Reverend Redmond Spikes who was the pastor at New Zion Baptist Church. He was also a community leader.
